This blog is intended to enhance the Ware Street football Sunday by promoting discussion, assigning tasks (e.g., the bringing of food and libations), informing the general public of rule changes and new punishments, highlighting outstanding performances and doling out necessary reprimands for actions unbecoming of the football Sunday standards set forth by Thomas Paine, General George S. Patton (U.S. Army-Ret.) and Tom Buhle.

Super Bowl Preview and Other Ramblings

Well Boys and Girls, its that time of year - THE SUPER BOWL. It's sports grandest stage for athletes and marketers alike. More of a spectacle than a contest, the Super Bowl is about everything else, the game often taking a back seat to media frenzy, mass consumption, and knuckleheaded athletes.

This years contest will likely be no different.

The NFC is represented by The Bears with a stingy defense, a solid ground game, and a walking hard on named Rex Grossman. (Hey jackhole, lay off the nitrous for a second so I can take this picture to be posted on numerous blogs if you ever accomplish anything!)

I mean, tell me this isn't the second coming of the '85 bears who had the foresight to embrace the "hip hop" culture well before Run DMC asked Aerosmith to "Walk this Way."
This is not to say I'm down on Da' Bears. That's insane. These guys should be the unofficial team for every fat guy, lush armed with a quick wit, a heart of gold, and an obvious death wish.

DAAAAAAAHHH Bears, da bears, da bears, da bears, da bears, da bears, da bears.....

Over in the AFC, we have the NFL's equivalent to Mr. Goody Two Shoes, the Colts of Indianapolis. These guys are cleaner than 1210 Ware St. since New Jersey's dynamic duo moved out.

They have a robot under center whose idea of a good time is dissecting game film (that is when he isn't busy hocking every product known to man - what a douche), an all pro receiver that doesn't spike the football, and their best defender is a black safety named Bob Sanders. You buy chicken feed from a Bob Sanders.

Need more proof, their black head coach has freckles!

I guess in this day and age, race shouldn't matter. But crank up SportsCenter and we have the battle of the brothers. Black Coach Vs. Black Coach - Dungy Vs. Lovie.

I guess it makes for great theatre, but at what price? I mean, are we just taking steps backwards, and on the eve of Black History Month.

Just Kidding.

Though still nearly a week away, the game and the hooplah should be promising. As too should be the celebration of another successful Football Sunday Season.

Here's Nat's Keys to Success this Sunday:

- Members of Football Sunday recount past sundays with joy and cander, such as the teddy bear like personality of Nicole Anderson or that time Bucktown ate his entire fist for 1.25 and a packet of Taco Bell's Fire Sauce (even)

- The fare is hearty and plentiful (2:1)

- At least three members of the Football Sunday are noticably drunk prior to kickoff (Odds 3: 1)

- Mr. Dustin Gordon stays out of the penalty box (odds 12: 1)

- More beer is brought than necessary (odds 18:1)

- Stickle grows a pair and puts plans with has cat on hold for a few hours to bask in the revelry (odds are 57:1)

I gave the last one less than favorable odds. Its not that I don't think highly of Mr. Stickle, its just I assume he'll be enjoying one of his new Sunday Pasttimes.

Like making babies cry

or

Killing puppies

We hope to see you there. Festivities start around 3 pm.

Nat's Prediction: Bears over Colts, 24 - 15.
